You may be asking yourself a question now. If sinful man does not seek God, why are there so many people involved with churches, mosques, temples, and religions? The truth is that millions of people are actively involved in religions all around the world. They seem to be seeking God in one way or another. So, how can it be true that sinful man does not seek God?
The Apostle Paul gives us the answer to that question. He said that "the god of this world [has] blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." As Paul travelled around telling people about Jesus, he noted that many people could not see the truth. No matter how clearly he explained the truth, these people were unable to understand it because the god of this world was blinding them. Satan is "the god of this world" and is very good at blinding people from seeing the truth. He convinces people that they don't need the one true God, that their religious efforts are acceptable to God, and that they are headed in the right direction. But he is wrong!
"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."
Many people have been deceived by Satan into believing their way is right. In fact, one king believed that he could gain his idol's favor by burning his own children in a fire! He actually thought he was doing what would please his god, but his actions only led to heartache and death. Most people today do not go to that extreme, but the results are the same. They follow a religion of good deeds hoping to cover up their sins. Some memorize religious writings and devote their lives to the betterment of mankind. The problem is that sinful man is deceived into thinking that he can continue in his sin and they never seek the God of the Bible. Sinful man may do a lot of good things, but unless his spiritual eyes are opened to the truth, he will never understand the truth.
