Trenton's Bible Study — Ephesians 6:13-15

Each day is a spiritual battle which can only be won by relying on the strength of the Lord and the armor he has provided for every Christian.

Read Ephesians 6:13-17.

Since the devil is constantly putting together a strategy to defeat Christians, each believer needs to put on the spiritual armor of God. With God's armor, we can stand firm and resist his attacks. Think of a Roman soldier as you read about the armor now. The Belt. A soldier's belt was essential because other pieces of armor and weapons were attached to it. In order for you to fight against the devil's strategies, you must begin with God's truth in the Bible. Study and memorize it to be ready for the conflict. The Breastplate. A soldier's breastplate covered his body from harm; without it he would be in great danger. Being that this is armor supplied by God, this righteousness is not something we come up with (living righteously) but is the right standing we have with God because of Jesus' death and resurrection. The devil may tell you that you are unworthy of God's favor. Just remember that through faith in Jesus you have been made righteous despite your sinfulness. The Boots. Have you ever had a bad pair of shoes which kept coming untied or which had holes in them? Imagine how difficult it would be for a soldier to fight across a battlefield with untied or ripped shoes. Through Jesus every believer has peace with God and should act as a messenger who is always ready to announce this good news to others.

  1. Who provides this armor for believers?

  2. Why do we need this armor?

  3. Explain what each piece of armor stands for:
    a. The Belt

    b. The Breastplate

    c. The Boots

  4. Do you feel ready to battle against the devil today? Why or why not?
